If you work in the building and construction industry you know how dangerous your job can be.

But while your job may be dangerous, your employers and/ or the main contractors on site have a responsibility to minimise those dangers and keep you as safe as possible at work.

Other independent contractors working separately to you on the same site also have a duty not to act in a way which places you in danger or causes you injury.

There are many ways that you could be injured on a building site, but we are often contacted by people who have been injured as a result of:

  • Falls from scaffolding or falls down holes and shafts
  • Faulty or defective machinery
  • Being hit by falling objects
  • Electrocution
  • Manual handling

However if you have been injured and your employer has not done everything they could to stop that accident happening then you could claim compensation.

Claiming Compensation for a Construction Accident

Often, the Health and Safety Executive investigation into an accident at work will find that a construction employer or contractor was to blame they will fine the company a large amount of money.

That should hopefully stop the same thing from happening again in the future.

But a claim for compensation will hold your employers responsible for the pain and suffering that you have been put through. It can also:

  • Pay for private medical treatment to speed up your recovery.
  • Repay you any money you have lost through missing work or having to pay for trips to hospital and so on.
  • Pay to adapt your car or home if you have been left physically disabled.

Depending on the circumstances of the accident, you may also be able to claim even if you consider yourself to be self-employed.

Please contact us for specific advice if this applies to you.

If you have lost a loved one who worked in the construction industry, you can claim compensation for your loss and on their behalf.
